Ok, little back story...
Picked up a 1J swapped '88 MK3 last week (actually traded it for a swapped honda). The guy's "uncle" did the swap. It's definitely not perfect, but the car does run and drive.
Here's the issue's:
- Car breaks up around 4k rpm.. Had a code 13, did some research and I ohm'd the cam sensor's. I ohm'd them out and are within spec.
- Car has a slight miss all around..Pulled the coil cover and a few of the clips where broken and one was soldered to the coil! :aigo: (I went ahead and ordered new coils and new connectors, hopefully this fixes this issue..)
- Car doesn't make a ton of power.. I know it's rated to close to 300hp, so i thought it would have SOME pep.. Well I pulled the air intake for the turbo's off anddd it's covered in oil. So I'm thinking the twin's are done (or one is), I went ahead and ordered a single turbo conversion for it.
- Car keeps boiling the coolant out of the overflow. This is worst issue... I thought blown head gasket, but from what I've read these are pretty tough motor's to hurt a gasket on. I did a block test and it passed (if combustion gasses are present in the coolant the liquid changes from blue to yellow). The gauge never goes past 1/2, but yet after a drive (even just cruising, hitting no boost) it'll push out the overflow and you can feel it boiling in the upper hose. It had a "safety/purge" cap on it, I swapped it out for a normal one and it still did it... One think I'm thinking possibly, is the twin electric fan's are not enough to cool the motor. I was reading they run hot and need a good fan to keep them cool.
ANY help would be great guy's. I love the car would like to fix the issue's.
