I've been doing alot research lately on the 1jzgte and I'am think of swapping one into a 240sx S14 ....I'm impressed by the power potential on the stock bottom end with few mods....I've seen a couple of s14's down here with 1jz swaps and the owners are very happy with their setups and have nothing but good things to say about this motor....they almost talk of it like its magical..lol

now my question is,

what are the weak links to this motor?I know it can't be 100% bullet proof, but I'm sure it can come close to it with good tunning

what are some of the problems some of you more experienced 1jz owners have ran into?

btw...I've read in a couple of forums that the stock 1jz head flows more than the stock 2jz head, can anyone prove this with some flow charts or some cfm numbers...

thanks in advance, your help would be apreciated

I'm no 1JZ expert and I don't have one, but from what I read around here:

1. The Stock Turbos blow easily.
2. Uhh...
3. If I recall correctly, someone proved that there is no difference (or a very little one where it wouldn't be noticeable).

stock turbos tend to blow for various reasons.

and no the 1jz head does not flow more than the 2jz head. that was just a myth that was recently disproven.

the stock twins will crap out eventually regardless of boost. So if you're going to keep them, might as well turn up the boost whil you can. :]

I'm going with a single setup ....maybe something like

stryder turbo manifold, and maybe even that intake mani they sale for the 1jz...I kow it aint the best, but its a good price
T67/t4 .68 or T61/t4 .68 .70 front on eitheir
custom 3inch dp to 3 1/2 inch piping
tial 44mm/open wg
-4 feedline
-10 return

And can some one direct me as to what oil line mods need to be done or who sells a nice kit...

oh and what emmissions removal could be done,if any?

find your manifold & wastgate here. Get in touch with Jon at MDC for the turbo, DP & oil lines (he has a smoking deal on a 62-1 (IIRC) turbo). No emissions came on the 1JZ's, it was a Japanese motor only.

thanks but a tial wg is a most for me...

I prefer turbos with newer style wheels like the (gt series with more blades)....60-1 and 62-1 run an old school conventional wheel(less blades)how can I get in contact with Jon?does he carry other turbos?

l6 240 are good. s14 is great for it dut to the larger size and weight than the s13. you need to get a front sump engine. the swap would not be too hard. the engine mounts will end up looking like little triangles on top of the crossmember. best bet is to just solid mount the jz. the tranny will end being about 3-4 inches forward at the shifter so you will need some moding in that location. driveshaft shop can supply a driveshaft. you will need to run a autometer tach and speedo because of the toyota using a analoge speedo and the tach signal being differant than the nissan. have fun.

Yeah.....I'm planning on using the soarer r154 which comes with an extention at the tail and will have the shifter sit in the right location.I'm gonna source a chaser or 2jz front sump pan...

BTW>their are a couple 1jz powered s14 I've seen down here that have the ecu,and all the gauges working accurately {tach,temp,and rpm gauge}...it just takes some good wiring skills and some calibration of the tach,but it has been done{just got to dish out extra dough}
