I just took the valvetrain apart on my 1JZ, as I am giving the motor a once over.
I'm just wondering what some of the head materials are made out of, especially the exhaust valves.
I was using a magnet to take the valves out, I found out the exhaust valves are not magnetic.
Are the intake valves stainless or something? What are the valve springs made out of?
I was thinking maybe the exhaust valves are a type of Inconel, which is good with high heat situations? I remember we used Inconel in high heat Space Shuttle applications and it was not magnetic, but it seems it would be expensive and a little too "rare" for a Toyota head, even more so in the 1980's when it was designed.
I'm obviously not a metallurgy wiz or anything, I am just curious and figured someone on here knew the materials they used in the head.
Thanks!
