1JZ Crossmember or Mount Adapters, Benefits?

Hello Forum,

I am doing my 1J swap and have an option to choose between using a 92 crossmember or mount adapters.

Are there any benefits of chosing one or the other?

Of course the benefits im looking for arent: one is cheaper than ther other or the time it takes to do one over the other.

On a sidenote, if I do use the crossmember would it be wise to reinforce the Xmember, similar to what other members do to the rear?

the pre 89 mounts are much better imho the mounts themselves are much less likely to break (every swap ive done had two broken mounts when using the round, the square were never broken) so pre 89 jz BIC brackets are the best thing you can do ;)

i havent seen anyone modify the mkiii's crossmember but i did notice the difference in the mkiii's and mkiv/soarers is that they have additional bracing, or maybe better to say sturdier designed crossmembers that i would say are less likely to be damaged in an accident

I would have to say if you were to swap x-member go with the one with less mileage than what you have. My car is 87 and I chosed to have x-member swapped from a 91/92 supra. As far as mounts though, yeah the rubber mounts do break easily. I now swapped a solid mounts to replace it and keep the engine flex to minimum.

any reason why? wouldnt you think replacing the pieces that wear out would be just as effective?

I 2nd what Randy said. I am running his Pre-89 motor mount adaptors and Pre-89 solid motor mounts. Very good products, very easy to install, and the motor doesn't move (which is good because it increases the efficiency of getting the power to the wheels). Here's a pic of my BIC setup on my 1J (yes I know the solid mount is upside down, I've already corrected that problem). This setup is extremely strong. Rubber mounts break which causes great motor flex which can cause other issues including broken sensors (broke my knock sensor because of this 2 years ago on my 7MGTE). Not a fun experience.

I already have the correct crossmember, I just need to unbolt it; so its not a huge hassel. I wanted some more facts before I removed the crossmember though.

i got solid aluminum mounts from a place out on the north west coast somewhere and they work great. he also sells a solid trans mount that takes a little modification to get to fit correctly. but i got the whole set for around 200 bucks.
