What is the smallest T4 footprint turbo that can see positive boost in the 2900 to 3100 rpm range on the 1J? I was looking at something like a GT3067R but I think that is only available in a T3 footprint. I am trying to avoid buying a T3 manifold, but I will if that is required. Goal is 390 to 410 rwhp with twin like response.

I'm sure a 57 trim with a small rear end, like a .58, would fit the bill nicely. I'm putting a 60-1 w/ a .58 rear housing because I want a spool monster too....

I would say the GT3082R (gt3040) gt30 turbine wiht a gt35r compressor.. should supply all the power you would want, and should spool quick (full spool mid 3k) you could even probably go with a GT3076R (maybe you mistyped gt3067?) should still supply the 400whp and spool a little quicker but wont go much past 400whp..

as far as the manifold, we can weld a T3 flange onto it, or there are cheap T3 manifolds and maybe we can work something out...

You will see positive boost pretty soon, even with a big turbo, but full boost will be later.. with my 67 I saw positive boost at ~ 3k but nothing major (over 6-7 psi) till above 4k..

Yeah Justin, that was a typo. We can talk about the best option. Swing by the house this weekend if you are free. I stayed home from work today as well, I think this is your off Friday.
