Okay, I was hoping never to delve into any MK3 electronics, but apparently I may not have a choice.

My 90 Supra had a dying battery (knew this.. was waiting to buy a new one) and I went this morning to spray out the engine bay in preparation of going through all the vacuum hoses, etc.. to freshen up the beast.
After the engine wash, while I was pulling out of the bay, the car began misfiring and ran very weakly. I was only a couple blocks from home, so I limped it home.
While I was driving, the brake light, battery light, ABS light all came on. Then they blinked off. Then they came on again. They were doing this off and on.
I replaced the battery and they havent come on again, but I am still misfiring. I blew the water out of the spark plug galley to make sure the ignition wires were not shorting out, but my guess is that this is what my problem is. Will water in the spark plug hole short out the wires? I do have another set of spark plug wires that I can replace them with, but wasn't sure if that would be the problem.

Any thoughts on what I killed by washing the engine? Everything was running perfectly prior.

Also, any idea what this plug is? I may have blew it off a connection, but I cant see any place for it to fit.

Also, this grey wire looks like it isn't healthy and could have been burnt/melted at one point in the past, not sure what it is

The problem with the car is that it used to have a remote start in it (still is.. but I dont know what brand, or what components are left.. or if there was an alarm component either), so they may be wires from that install, but a part could have been pulled out.

Any thoughts?

(the misfire after washing used to be a pretty easy fix... blow out the distributor cap.. voila.. fixed.. lol.)

Oh yeah, i should mention.. since day 1 of ownership, when I press the brake, the brakelight comes on. Pretty sure that was just a short in the tail light assembly that is pretty easy to fix. I have to do the rear tail seals, so was ignoring it until then as all lights work. Had this issue with my 88 and it was just a loose ground on the tail light.)

Figured it was probably them. Will have to pull the wires, and clean it all up. Probably a good time to redo he valve cover seals.
Hmm.. I remember a writeup somewhere about actually sealing the center galley...

Went through, cleaned all the wires, hit it with a little WD-40 (the ultimate mechanic tool), and voila.. runs properly.
However.. noted that I am getting a noise on the stereo (aftermarket) meaning either a. It was installed (wired) incorrectly or b. I have a short in my ignition wiring. Been a long time since I have heard that static rev sound.. lol... so old skool!

Does anyone know what that wire is in the top pic? I am thinking it may be something for the remote lock system previously installed..

I come from a land down under
My guess is some genius has removed the Caps/Suppressors from the ALT and anything else high load/noise that needs them and this is why you're getting the noise in the radio.

Yup did the same thing
Power washed engine bay to remove 20+ yrs grime/dirt build up
Started up and ran like poo
Found spark plug galley full of water
Used shop vac and replaced wires
Ran perfect after replacing wires

well.. the alternator failed today, so I grabbed the one off of my 88 MK3. Apparently, the 88 Manual version is bigger than the 90 Auto... Luckily.. I have an 87 MK3 sitting in the garage and that one works good. Now I will have to find a plug and rewire it, because I noticed that the white lead is bare and looks like it will break sometime soon.

Still think WD-40 is a must have.. lol. I keep a can in the back where the jack usually sits. Cleans bugs and tar off your car like nothing else too.

really?
i killed my 91 alternator after leaving running lights on all night
my optima held up but sucked the life out of the alt
ended using my old alt from my 87
the one one my 87 was smaller in size....IIRC i believe i had to change B+ terminal(post)

I thought mine would be different, but it looked identical. I can see the 90 tag to see what amps it was pushing to see if they are identical, but everything bolted up as if it all was the same. My 88 is thicker (there is a bigger shield on the back) so it fits, but not as easily, however the top post is larger so I would have to change the terminal and didn't want to do that without knowing why the 2 were different.

Odd thing is my light failure light comes on everytime I hit the brake, but never in the same way. Sometimes it will blink on and off once quickly, now when its cold, its on solid... It usually only comes on when I press the brake and will go off if I rev the engine. Somehow I think it is either tied to the alternator circuit (although I thought it would be the rear light failure box that would be doing it) or it may be that the stereo is wired into the brake light system incorrectly. All the lights work except the fogs which are disconnected until I get a new front bumper.
