Hey guys... Im new to this forum. Ive read it alot but just officially became a member. It seems as though many of you have great knowledge of the 7mge and 7mgte. I bought a 1990 model (7mge/na) a few yrs back (for too much money...I had to have it) only has 110,000 mi on it. Anyway the same as most of them I had a BHG. I replaced it myself with ARP head bolts torqued at 90 and put her all back together. She starts but will only run when I have the accelerator all the way to the floor. And then she runs like she is just idling about 700 RPM. Also smoking over by the exhaust manifold with a terrible odor. She shows that all codes are fine through the diagnostic test (TE1) pins etc. Steady flashing check engine light. Im almost (I said ALMOST) positive the timing is right. Timed it on compression stroke. Im lost!! Car looks beautiful. HELP!!!

Did you remove the cam gears from the camshafts? I know they can go back on at a different angle if you're not careful
Tks for the reply! I actually didnt remove the cams, but when I had the head machined (20 1000th of an inch removed) by the machine shop..They told me they removed the cams but assured me that they put them back on correctly. They also ordered me a shim to replace the shaved head and I used it also. I was kinda thinking it could be a timing issue or a cam not put back on exactly right. But I just kinda trusted them on that. Car ran great before this work. Just had a BHG.
never "trust" the shop... another guy kept having issues with his motor after having his "shop" do some work for him... The set the cams wrong and gave him negative pressure (his exhaust was sucking in and his intake was blowing out) he was 180 out! You might not be as bad as his but it still wreaks of timing... do you have a TSRM? check all of the timing marks two or three times and be damn sure your timing is on point
