How many rpm's are you turning at 80 mph? There is a guy here locally(junk yard) that has a 1987 supra turbo. He swears the differential is a 3.73. I don't know how he knows this, but he saids he does. I know the 87 and 88s had a 3.90 gear ratio. I have a 91 turbo five speed with a NA differential in it I guess cause it turns 3900 rpm at 80 mph. I'm just wanting to know if this is a regular differential out of a 87 and not the 3.73 like he swears it is, what can I look forward to on the highway. My wifes 89 auto turns 2800 at 80 mph. What does your 87 turn. Thanks.

I don't know how all of that sounds, but my one question is this: How many rpm's are you turning in fifth gear at 80 mph. That's generally what I cruise at and want to know how many rpm's I'll be turning. Thanks

I have did numerous searches on here in the last thirty minutes and it seems like the 3.91 would be a better gear ratio for me. I love to go to Bama dragway and race through an 1/8 mile and spank Mustang GT's. It looks like the only real benefit of the 3.73 is twenty miles an hour faster on top end. I have no desire to go over 140mph., so that wouldn't concern me. Does this make sense and is it an accurate analysis? Thanks.

Thanks sleepersupra. I was hoping for a little less than 3500, but I guess that's what I'll get if I buy this one from the junkyard. Hopefully someone else will chime in and lie to me and tell me it'll be right around 3000..............lol

rep sent. thanks

Apparently I have given you all rep recently, cause it won't let me do it again. I did however give rep to Micky. I really do appreciate the help and 3100 is awesome. I will go buy the rearend tomorrow. I think 140 kilo. is around 80mph. My dash has kilometers on it where I ordered my gauges wrong. All I know is 80mph is straight up like 12:00. You've all been a great help.

Glad I could give you a reason to go cruisin at 80 SS.............lol

OH, yeah ,I have 17" wheels also, I can't remember what size tire though. Their low profile, so their probably not much bigger than stock 16" wheels and tires.

I think you have to have enough horses to get to 6500 rpm in fifth. I don't think I'll ever find out. Our roads aren't the best around here, and that would eat a set of brakes up, trying to stop quick from 165.
