160 degree thermostat

Ive looked around and ive only been able to find the one made by beck arnley, and i was trying to see if there were any others ones, or if i should just go ahead and get this one.

i have the heavy duty fail safe BA 180* on mine. works awesome. might consider cutting off the jiggle valve and drilling out the hole a little larger as well.

i couldn't tell you how many different brands, types, and temps i've tried. on my car i like this one the best.

dont use the thermostat. The car will never reach proper operating temps. that thermostat is actually too cool. The ecu still see the car as being too cold and will try and respond by dumping more fuel, higher idle, etc to warm the car up.

Would a 180 over our stock 195 throw the system off too much? Or would it be, deal-able? I know it'll use a little more gas because its trying to warm the car up, but isnt that only at idle? I could care less if my idle went up 50-100 rpms because the cars colder. Yes it'll use more gas, but it keeps it colder.

no it wont just at idle since the car will never be fully warmed up. It wont be warmed up at idle, highway, w/e it will still be too low. As far as using the 180 ova stock 195, i cant tell you exactly if its good or not. More knowledgeable members can chime in.

Try 1500rpms......seriously just throw your idea out the window as it's full of fail...if you're car is running hot then you have other problems that a colder thermo won't solve.

Run OEM thermostat and be done. Don't mess with A/F and mess something up. There is a reason Electronic Fuel injected vehicles have a coolant temp sensor to the ECU.

No heating probs, t-stats leaking a little so i was about to replace the thermostat/gasket/o-ring thing and was just seeing if a 160 would be better.

Yeah im just gonna listen to other people and grab a 195temp reg one. Should i go to toyota for this (Like i do for SOME parts) or should i napa this one up.

no Sir! this Topic has been Covered Countless Times i myself had the SAME question *160 dont due Crap but cause more PRoblem ..i currently run *180 with NO PRoblem [for warmer climates like Miami wheres it's always 95degrees outside]

---------*180 is the lowest anything else ur causeing Harm to ur Car

Never had ECU/running problems with a 160 on a 7M, but.........

An engine that is only at 160 takes much longer to cook off water condensation, and raw fuel that collects in the oil during start up.
Not good if you do a lot of short trips.
Also, if running forged pistons, which heat up as quick as cast, but grow more,
you are less likely to have 'cold seizure' damage on the cylinders.
Been there, got the cylinder scoring, but not the Tee shirt......

Smokey Yunick once built a high mileage 'hot' engine.
If I remember right, on some small pos ford, like a pinto, not his 'Hot Vapor' Fiero.
He ran very high engine temps, hot inlet air temps to better vaporize the fuel.
This was the late '70s, early '80s.
I tried his ideas on an old pos datsun 510 wagon, and it worked,
I was able to nail down over 45 mpg on that old dog.
But it was a dog, really frigging slow.

Moral ?
Use a 180, the engine will make decent power, and not suffer any of the ills of running to cold.

those are fail-safe t'stats. i'm pretty sure all the stants aren't like that. i looked on their website but didn't find much.

i've always thought the standard stant were a little cheap. i've used the superstant before and i't looked like it was better made. whether that made a difference or not as far as performance, i'm not sure.
