I thought I might as well make a comment about my experience with the reliability of the 7m since to few people actually praise the motor when it works right. Instead they usually just complain when it breaks.

The other day I made it back from Colorado with my Supra (in California now). It was a 15 hour drive and me and my friend went straight through. I got to say I'm very impressed with the 7m. The motor has approx. 186,000 miles on it with a new HG(composite, approx 2,000 miles on it) and new bearings, rods and mains. The piston rings are showing signs of wear, via poor compression results. I did all the basic maintenance, hoses, belts, plugs, ect. And the motor didn't have one problem the whole way. It did perfectly. Now the car is going into storage for a few months.

All in all, I give props to Toyota and there design. It is a very good platform when properly taken car of. And I have no doubt that I could continue driving it with out problems.

Mine has been extremely reliable so far. ~103k miles and it has never been down for unscheduled maintenance. Let's hope saying this doesn't jinx it. :icon_neut

A few years ago I travelled with friends...We went on an excursion and went mountain climbing to some of the biggest mountains in the country....Drove my supra nonstop for a couple of days....on gravel, canyon carving, freeway...no problems at all....

Cheers,
Roy

My car was awesome up till the fateful day, I never even thought twice about going on long trips in the car. I would just hop in and go, I miss it :(

I had rodnock for 30k miles on the original motor in the car. She went out a year later, repectfully as she took me to school everyday @ 50+ miles one way. Gasmilage was horrible, but she got me there. All i did was change the oil and mosly add oil and some of that lucas. Im on my jdm ge now with about 6k miles on it since the swap this spring and no issues what so ever. My new goal is to "spruce" up the suspension back to par and shes got another 183k in her easy.

Blew the headgasket, other than that it's only been a couple minor issues (cracked intake manifold gasket, leaking turbo oil return line, cracked ISC hose, I think that's it).

It's never let me down though, even when the HG blew I managed to limp it home.

yups they are a tough old tanks, blown hg and still going hard, rod knock spun bearings, cracked piston ring landings and she still kept chugging along. Went on a "naughty long weekend" down south and managed 650kms to 3/4 of a tank cruising around the southwest of West aust.bumpy corrogated gravel roads, big potholes and she still felt smooth,The return trip however was more fun,Bussleton to bunbury was done in 12mins,180kph+ with the roof off.Used over 1/2 tank, got windburn, sunburnt but ohh what a feeling.

took many state to state road trips, daily driven to work, had about 100k on it, 10 - 12 psi, many weekend drives to the beach, original lower radiator hose blew up once...

+1 me! :D

miggles: yeah, someone on here said you can't go 100+mph with the targa off. HA! I've been at 160mph with the targa off for an overly extended amount of time.

Oh what a feeling is right, lol!
