what turbo do you guys recommend?

i am planning on going 1.5JZ here by the end of the year with a single turbo

i got a Greddy T4 1JZ Exhaust Manifold and Greddy type R wastegate

im gonna use a 3 inch IC and 3inch IC piping.

im looking for something that will net around 500whp on pump gas...what would you recommend?

im thinking a 67mm with a .70 A/R??

let me know what you are running and what power you see at what RPM if you dont mind.

thanks!

i was thinking about going .81 but i dunno how the spool would be

i've read the 67mm turbo dyno thread on SF and a mkiv only made 485 on 18psi pump gas with AF ratio of 12.1:1

thats weak imo

im gonna have 264 cams and what not....well the BC 272 Small core which is the same as a 264

485whp on 18 is really weak. Was it a JDM spec motor? That would account for that.

My buddy with a 1JZ (2.5l) with a GT35R made 478whp on 18psi.

My 1jz only made 446 @ 20psi and that was with a GT35R................:dunno:

I was thinking about building a 2jz block and going to 1.5 as well. I haven't found one locally though.

He's using HKS 264's. That's probably the difference :) lol

Also 5spd R154, blitz ECU and SAFC2, 550's.

I have 5spd R154, stock ECU and SAFCI, 624 cc's, ported and polished head, walbro 255 fp, aeromotive fpr, and a bunch of other stuff. My block does have low compression for some reason, so that could be it. I doubt those HKS cams are that much better than mine, but they might be.

i HIGHLY doubt it jay

i think its the compression man

im going 1.5J with BC 272 Small cores, prolly 680cc, 1walbro at first and then twin prolly, 3 inch IC and 3 inch IC piping with 4 inch full exhaust. we'll see how it does...

Making power isnt cut and dry. timing has a lot to do with making power also. if its super conservative. you wont see "typical numbers" dont just look at boost and air fuel ratio. so many things contribute to Hp numbers. and running enough spark to effciently burn the Air and fuel is just as important.

A Gt35R will make the 500hp on pump on a 1JZ you just need headwork, tuning and a good engine management system. That guy made 446 on a S-AFC? Come on! Are you serious? I dont like the E-manage, but even with that that number would be 60hp higher because of fuel and timing corrections available to the user. It depends on the setup.

Come on guys! there are 2.2L Evo's making high 400's on pump with a GT-35R! And we have 2.5L 1JZ's. Well some of us are rather fortunate that you are 1.5JZ Frankensteins.

yea a gt35R would do it but i would have to run higher boost to do so i dont wanna have to run pump and meth or races gas 24/7 to accomplish 500 whp

im either going 67 or 71 but nothing smaller than a 67mm

and boostage i know but there were 5 people with the same setup that posted the SAME numbers just seems weak to me

Still cant make power with conservative timing. if you said all 5 people were running the same setup with aggresive timing and couldnt break 500hp, then that would be a problem. but just going off psi and AFR. it means nothing
