0-60 in 4s? how is this possible?

I just timed my "junk" car that I bought for parts, and it reached 60mph from a standstill in about 4 seconds. I thought it was fast, but that time surprised me since I'm not an experienced driver, I had a turbo lagged slow start, and the boost controller that came with the car wasn't installed. But when the turbo spools up, this think takes off like a rocket. Is this really possible with an MKIII, or am I doing a bad job timing it? What would the previous owners had to do to this thing to make it so fast? I can see a very loud racing muffler, I heard from the previous owner that it has an upgraded turbo, though it looks stock on the outside, and it has a cone filter. It has an AFM, which I have no idea how to interpret, and an AFM boost guage, that never goes past 9psi. The body paint is a mess, primer of different colors, broken front and rear fiberglass bumpers, badly bondoed over, and partly sanded paint everywhere else, but now I'm thinking it might be worth keeping and fixing up.

So, can anyone give me an idea of what, if anything, would give enough power to make 0-60 in under 4.5 seconds on an MKIII turbo without boost?

Spray. On a more serious note (since that is unlikely) I think you messed up a bit on timing that. I have a 60-1 CT26 (the biggest reasonable upgrade possible) and I don't think my car would do that at 15PSI, let alone 9. I have shitty tires and have never had traction before 70 MPH, so it's possible I'm completely wrong, but I don't think so.

maybe you were looking at KPH?
or driving straight down? heh

4 seconds to 60mph in an MKIII should take roughly 500hp, so you should fall well short of that.

It takes a hell of a lot less than 500hp to hit 4.5 seconds, i hit 4.9 with a 3" elbow, 3" downpipe, no cat, 3" exhaust, 12psi, intercooler. Keep in mind that is only 1.5 seconds than what the MKiii does stock. I used my buddies performance meter to measure. (gtech or whatever) Most were around 5.1 but my best time was the 4.9

no he said 4.5 seconds. It isnt possible at 9psi even with a 60-1 upgrade. All I'm saying is to hit 4.5 it takes way less than 500hp. That is a ton of horsepower even for a heavy car. The mercedes 2006 s600 twin turbo sedan is a HUGE, HEAVY sedan weighing 5710lbs and it will do 4.8 seconds with 493hp.

yeah the 500hp statement was ridiculous.

BHP not WHP. I guess I should have specified.
other cars around 3500lb and 500bhp have 0-60 of 4 seconds.
Some weigh less and have more power and get the same time, because as we all know peak hp doesn't tell the whole story. That's why I said roughly.

And yes, that's for a 4sec time not 4.5. I was going off the thread title.
Also you'll notice he said "about 4 seconds" and "under 4.5 seconds," not 4.5 exactly.

I didn't just completely pull the number out of my ass.

i think you guys are barking up the wrong tree, we need to get clarification from the OP:

Did you do CustomOhioSupra's free egr loopback mod?

that would help a 200hp supra pull a 4s 0-60mph in the rain

Recheck those numbers. The torque was 700 from what I remember when I read it. And it also has much bigger, stickier tires.
