I just timed my "junk" car that I bought for parts, and it reached 60mph from a standstill in about 4 seconds. I thought it was fast, but that time surprised me since I'm not an experienced driver, I had a turbo lagged slow start, and the boost controller that came with the car wasn't installed. But when the turbo spools up, this think takes off like a rocket. Is this really possible with an MKIII, or am I doing a bad job timing it? What would the previous owners had to do to this thing to make it so fast? I can see a very loud racing muffler, I heard from the previous owner that it has an upgraded turbo, though it looks stock on the outside, and it has a cone filter. It has an AFM, which I have no idea how to interpret, and an AFM boost guage, that never goes past 9psi. The body paint is a mess, primer of different colors, broken front and rear fiberglass bumpers, badly bondoed over, and partly sanded paint everywhere else, but now I'm thinking it might be worth keeping and fixing up.
So, can anyone give me an idea of what, if anything, would give enough power to make 0-60 in under 4.5 seconds on an MKIII turbo without boost?
