I have a '84 Mk2 Supra with a 1jz, and been looking into aftermarket intake manifold kits that include TB and fuel rail Power gains likely very modest for me, but they do look nice and cleans up the engine bay. I like being able to get to the injectors easier too. Thing is, don't see much...
Ken: no expert on turbo compressor maps, but what I have read and seen the 7163 EFR is good for about 500hp, which is my general goal also. Yes, my 1jz has never been opened up (by me), so stock original since purchased. I have no doubt some cam, head/valve work can better numbers, but the...
Ended up with a truboost spring pressure of 11.5 psi, working fine. Haven't tried bumping it up any higher. Mid range power is strong, no sacrifices. My goal with the 7163 was to get earlier boost, and it definitely succeeds. Top end is plenty strong as I am at about 23.5 lbs boost now, not...
Update: Played with the spring pressure setting on the Tru Boost. It is variously referred to as "wastegast crack pressure", "gAE", "spring pressure". On my GT3076 with external WG with a 1 bar spring, the suggestion is to set this spring pressure to about 2-3 psi less than the WG spring. I...
Hello All, just wanted to ask for some feedback on my 1jz surging at full throttle situation. Noticed in 2nd gear as it is an autox Mk2 supra. Specifics currently:
1jzgte stock internals
BW EFR 7163 .80 a/r, T4, internal WG, internal BOV, high boost WG canister set 3 turns preload. Turbo...
Late to the party, but I had a somewhat similar mystery, 1jz single turbo rev nice to about 4500 rpm, then stutter, sometimes can rev past through the stumble, but still bothered me. Turns out my knock sensor system was kicking in too early. I'm using a SDS standalone, so I decreased the knock...
Has anyone tried fitting a larger diameter pulley on the PS pump on a 1jz ? Would this be called an underdrive pulley? Just thinking if I rev the engine between 7-8k rpms during my autocross runs, the PS pump may wear out sooner due to the high revs. Maybe not a common problem, but I would...
In the 3k to 4k rpm range when throttle response is now sluggish, not much pep at all, the afr has been around 11.5 to 12. Since I wasn't getting any boost down there, I leaned out the fuel settings in that area so its more like 12-12.5 afr. I also tried bumping up the ignition advance in that...
My Mk2 Supra was running fine last year, sat during the winter months, now I have an issue that just puzzles me. Maybe others can offer some info.
1jz, gt30 single turbo, tial mvs 38mm WG, tial bov. I used to get good throttle response at 3k rpm, pulled strong up to 7k and smooth. This...
what kind of fuel or engine management system? Not sure about the backfire, but bucking could be fuel cutting in and out when letting off the gas. With my standalone, some tuning of map pressure above 22" helped with my bucking, which was due to lean condition upon letting up of throttle.
Ask and you shall receive :)
I built my 5mge n/a motor and went to several SCCA Nats in D-Street Prepared, car was competitive, but underpowered. I have several threads regarding my 5mge days, with triple throttle bodies, SDS standalone install, etc. That however was another time. The 1jzgte...
Here's a pic of my current intercooler, its a Mishimoto bar/plate, seems to work very well for dropping intake temps down, the measurement by touching the inlet and the outlets shows a big difference in temps. That part is good. The not so good is the placement and size of the intercooler...
Thanks for the input Brad! I know the air flow to my radiator (which is fairly new) is compromised, so I'm planning to look at getting at least 1/2 of the radiator face exposed to air flow. That will involve using a smaller intercooler, and moving my oil cooler around. I had plans from way...
Ok, thanks for the replies. Drilling a hole in the t-stat seems like a useless move. I have a intercooler that blocks a significant part of the airflow to the radiator. Maybe I can change to a smaller intercooler, something like 24" wide and 6" tall, that would allow more air to reach the...
Hi guys, I'm just doing some brainstorming on how to keep my autox Supra (mk2 with a 1jz, single turbo) a bit cooler for the 60 sec autox runs. Currently with a stock
1JZ thermostat, and around town normal driving my gauge is about 175-185 degrees. I do some short autox runs and the engine...
Just another thought, and something I have not experience with, is the possibility of the knock sensor kicking in and causing loss of power. Not sure how the knock sensor tries to protect the motor if it senses knock, whether it just pulls timing only, or cuts fuel and spark to stop revs, just...
If your AFR is leaning out at higher boost, why waste time looking at spark issues? Lack of spark if anything should give a richer condition, as you are unable to adequately burn what fuel you have. I would look at fuel pump (as others stated) and also check out your fuel pressure regulator as...
Thanks for you help in checking out the AEM unit and harness Aaron. Great service, and no doubt a good product. It was never my intention to imply that there was anything defective with the AEM kit. I thought it was fairly clear that I was simply asking for forum advice, suggestions on what...
