Well poo - I now hear a squishy sound (like bad hood/hatch struts) from the rear right shock whenever I go over a large bump. I'm going to check the torque on the top nut again, but this is rather annoying. Anyone have any other possible culprits?
Quick question - do I need to jack the car up on the lower rear suspension when I tighten the lower shock mount to the control arm? It was mentioned the bushings will tear apart on certain parts if the suspension isn't weighted, ie upper control arms, but I can't see a way to tighten the shock...
That's actually where I found out about the Monroe rebate. I was just wondering if anyone had found a lower priced option. Seems every is in the $35 range for the upper strut mount, but it just seemed odd that they would be the same price as the struts themselves.
Parts Geek has lower ball...
Nice! I'm going with KYB, but for a stock replacement shock it's really hard to beat a $60 rebate (for 4).
Anyone have any leads on cheap upper shock mounts? It looks like I should replace mine and the best price I've found so far is about $33ea.
Just an FYI for those looking for stock-type replacement struts on the cheap, Monroe has a $60 rebate when you buy 4 of their OESpectrum struts (71214 and 71215) until April 30th. I almost went this route, but you have to reuse the lower spring perch. This was a deal breaker for me, but it...
I may just have a shop swap the springs over for me. While I can easily rent a spring compressor from AZ, I also know how cheap their tools can be. Better safe than sorry.
Still wondering if anyone has any thoughts on proactively replacing the top shock mounts and getting the shock dust...
Sounds exactly like a rubber ball in a box. I got a moment to look up under the wheel well and low and behold, oil stains all over the PR shock. Bounce test told me the same thing, so I'll be ordering some KYBs soon. Anyone found a cheaper price than $40ea?
Do you recommend replacing the...
About two weeks ago I noticed, when going over rough pavement at low speeds, my rear right suspension sounds like a tennis ball bouncing in a small cardboard box. I haven't been able to replicate the noise yet while parked and haven't been able to get underneath it since all my "free" time is...
So anyone have a resolution to this issue? My car started making a similar sound to this about a week ago from the rear right of the car. I haven't been able to replicate it when parked, but when going over rough pavement at low speeds it sounds like a tennis ball bouncing in a small cardboard...
First, thanks for the pictures and link to the install write-up. I pulled the cross bar on mine since it makes the job a bit easier and it's not hard to pull.
I got my core at O'Rielly's since Autozone was on what seemed perpetual back order. Not a great looking core compared to factory...
Happen to have a crack in the breather tube on the side of the valve cover or any other possible sources for a vacuum leak that could allow cool, moist air into the crankcase/valve cover? Check those first, then look for signs of milkshake on the dipstick or oil in the coolant. If you have the...
Thanks for the link. I didn't see that one before, but I'll check it out.
And don't think I'm being stubborn because I enjoy it. I'm living off my savings while I'm back in school full time so the thought of buying a new alternator is pretty low on my list. Besides, the alternator was...
Gauge drops from what appears to be about 14v to 12v when the lights come on. (edit: of course, on the rare occasion they stay on for more than a few seconds, you'll notice the voltage continue to drop). Instantly goes back to 14v when they go off, so the alternator is charging.) Multimeter...
Still flickering randomly. I can sometimes force it to happen when there is a draw on the system, like when I hit the brakes or use the window motors. I've retested the alternator numerous times and even swapped a known good one on, but it still does it. Grounds all look good as well. I'm...
I've had nothing but good luck from the Autozone gold top batteries. The one in my T-bird lasts 2-3 months of sitting before going dead, and I replaced the last one after about 7 years of use. It's made by Johnson Controls, who also makes the Optima brand, and it has a great warranty which...
