You should have all the plugs in the computer plugged in. I believe there are three or four body plugs under the dash.
Does your check engine light come on when the ignition is on? Do the injector plugs have a 12V source on one of the pins?
I believe you would not want the bung to rest where oil would be as you would end up with a line that will get backed up. What you need to do is put it up highest to the top under the mounting flange obviously without blocking a bolt hole.

Get a volt meter and connect it between the negative pole of the battery and the negative wire terminal. Pull the fuses one at a time and check when the voltage goes down. Reinstall the fuse after you remove it before pulling another one.
I am not sure what the specs should be but maybe...
Please avoid Probes. Get a set of CP, JE or Weisco. I can go on about why you should use those pistons but just take a look here. I debated why Probe pistons are not worth the hassel.
